Peter Wong’s Chamber Music Assignment

Posted in Chamber Music, Golf, Project on June 29, 2011 by dynolights

The Brainerd Lakes Area Chamber Orchestra had asked me to come up with ideas for their poster and program cover.

Brainerd is known for their lakes, ponds and golf, therefore I decided to photograph the musicians by one of my favorite golf holes at The Pines at Grand View Lodge. I had them there at 5 am (it was on June 24th, one of the longest days).  As we waited for the sun to come over the trees the pond was steaming a bit and the trees were side lit. It was a truly awesome setting.

But something was  missing. They each were playing their own music.  So I ran over and told them to play one song/sonata, whatever, together and with PASSION.

These images are some of my captures..

Black Bears

Posted in Animal Life, Nature with tags on June 14, 2011 by dynolights

These images are from a photo shoot at the Vince Shute Bear Sanctuary in Orr, Mn. The sanctuary is the work of a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public on the habits of wild black bears.

During the months of June, July and August there are workshops to photograph and observe this magnificent animal. This was my second time at the sanctuary. I chose the month of June to visit the sanctuary because the bear cubs are still quite small and their antics are delightful to watch.

I used a 70-200 mm F2.8 lens with a teleconverter to capture these shots.

Infrared Photographs at Heritage Acres in Fairmont, MN

Posted in Infrared, Landscape, Small Town with tags , on June 14, 2011 by dynolights

A few weeks ago I went to the Heritage Acres Park in Fairmont, MN. I photographed in color as well as in infrared, but I prefer the IR captures over the standard color photographs.

This is a maintained park and as such doesn’t qualify for my “Abandoned Minnesota” series, but it still makes for good photography with interesting subject matter.

Delano Minnesota

Posted in Historical, Project, Small Town, Urban with tags , on June 3, 2011 by dynolights

Delano is a small and scenic city West of downtown Minneapolis situated on the Crow River.  A few of our members decided to shoot there last month and we came away with some great memories.  In particular, there is a local coffee shop that features Saturday morning jam sessions that any musician can join, a few great scenic churches and a local winery.  We hit them all and more.

Below are some of the images from two of our members.  We will post more in the future as they come in.
